During the February Board meeting, the Georgia Composite Medical Board selected Daniel Dorsey to serve as its executive director. The previous director LaSharn Hughes passed away suddenly in October 2021.

“The Board is confident that Daniel will be able to lead the GCMB and carry out its strategic vision and mission,” said GCMB Chair Despina Dalton, MD. “The Board made this selection based on Daniel’s experience, qualifications, skills, and professional achievements. Please join me in congratulating and supporting him as he transitions into this new role.”

Dorsey previously managed finances and operations for the GCMB. He also coordinated external affairs for the Georgia Board of Health Care Workforce and specialized in state-level health and natural resource issues in the Office of Gov. Nathan Deal. Before a career in state government, Dorsey spent three years in the private sector within the hospitality/tourism industry in Colorado, Tennessee, and Wyoming. Dorsey holds a bachelor’s degree from Western Carolina University and an MBA from Western Governors University. He and his wife reside in the metro-Atlanta area and are active members at Buckhead Church.

The Board is grateful for Jonathan McGehee and Micahlen Hughes, who both stepped in as interim directors over the past few months. Dorsey officially begins the new position on Feb. 16.
