Board suspends doctor for felony indictments
The Georgia Composite Medical Board voted yesterday during its February meeting to accept an interim public consent order suspending the medical license of Kevin McCowan, M.D. (#053781).
McCowan was indicted on felony charges in Superior Court of Cobb County, Ga., on January 28, 2016, and has agreed to the order suspending his medical license pending the resolution of the criminal charges. The order stipulates that McCowan makes no admission to any of the charges and reserves the right to contest the allegations against him. Upon notification of the resolution of the criminal charges, the Board is authorized to initiate disciplinary proceedings or otherwise resolve the matter. The Board reserves the right to add additional charges.
During the period of suspension, McCowan is prohibited from practicing medicine in Georgia and must continue to both pay the license renewal fee and obtain continuing medical education credits. The order also stipulates that failure to comply is grounds for revocation of his license without a hearing.
