Physician Licensing Exams Information

This page contains information for contacting the appropriate entity to provide a medical licensing board, hospital, managed care organization, or credentialing agency with a physician's licensing exam history.

The Federation of State Medical Boards maintains and reports to licensing boards all examination history involving the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE), Federation Licensing Examination (FLEX), and Special Purpose Examination (SPEX). Requests for scores can be made via the Federation's website (click HERE).

The National Board of Medical Examiners (NBME) is another organization administering an exam. Their website provides information on NBME parts history (click HERE).

Verification of certification by the ECFMG and the examinations leading to this certification can be obtained through their website (click HERE).

The National Board of Osteopathic Medical Examiners (NBOME) administers the Comprehensive Osteopathic Medical Licensing Examination of the United States (COMLEX-USA), which is a three-level, national standardized licensure examination designed for licensure for the practice of osteopathic medicine. NBOME's website provides more information on this exam (click HERE).

In 2021, the USMLE and COMLEX lowered the attempt limit. If examinees have exhausted their attempts and would like to request the Board's assistance in taking the exam one more time, they should fill out the form below and request that a copy of their exam transcript be sent directly from FSMB or NBOME.
