Message from the Board Chairperson

Welcome to the Georgia Composite Medical Board website!

The Georgia Composite Medical Board is an independent agency whose mission is to protect the health of Georgian's as well as to enforce the Medical Practice Act as enacted by Georgia legislature. The Medical Board takes its mission very seriously: to protect the health of Georgians by ensuring that well qualified physicians and other members of the medical/healing arts receive licensure and by providing up-to-date information regarding the practice of medicine for both consumers and healthcare professionals.

The Georgia Composite Medical Board is composed of fifteen volunteer members appointed by the Governor and one ex-officio volunteer member appointed by the Board. There are thirteen physician members who are actively practicing physicians in the state of Georgia. Two members of the Board are non-physician consumer appointees and the other member is a Physician Assistant who serves in an ex-officio capacity. The Board is capably served by its Executive Director, and a very talented and dedicated staff.

For the consumer, the Board investigates all complaints submitted either online or by mail as well as investigating all malpractice settlements. The Board website provides the public profiles on all licensed providers in the state as well as all public Board orders.

For the over 55,000 professionals licensed by the Board, the website provides information and forms to apply, renew, or reinstate a license. The rules and regulations of the Georgia Composite Medical Board as well as the Medical Practice Act are available on the website and I encourage all professionals licensed by the Board to refer to them often.

The Georgia Composite Medical Board and staff faithfully accept this responsibility and commitment to the citizens of Georgia and will strive to continuously improve and innovate so that we fulfill the mission to protect the health of the citizens of Georgia. We look forward to hearing from you with your thoughts, comments and suggestions.
