Board takes action against physician allegedly linked to patient's death
The Georgia Composite Medical Board voted yesterday during its February meeting to accept the interim public consent order suspending the license of Narendra Nagareddy, M.D. (#046703) effective February 5, 2016.
Nagareddy was arrested in Clayton County, Ga., on January 14, 2016, and charged with unlawful prescribing/ordering. The charge relates to information that Nagareddy allegedly prescribed or ordered the dispensing of controlled substances which was not while acting in the usual course of professional practice and was not for a legitimate purpose, resulting in a patient death.
Nagareddy has agreed to the consent-ordered suspension of his medical license pending the resolution of the criminal charges. The order stipulates that Nagareddy makes no admission to any of the charges and reserves the right to contest the allegations against him. Upon notification of the resolution of the criminal charges, the Board is authorized to initiate disciplinary proceedings or otherwise resolve the matter. The Board reserves the right to add additional charges.
During the period of suspension, Nagareddy is prohibited from practicing medicine in Georgia and must continue to both pay the license renewal fee and obtain continuing medical education credits. The order also stipulates that failure to comply is grounds for revocation of his license without a hearing.
